This is some very important information and dates for your review. Please read the following in its entirety. Please note:  All student classes are in-person, face-to-face instruction. No virtual classes are being offered at this time

 

Student Orientation/Open House – Returning Students and New Students

EVERYONE 2 years and older is required to wear a mask while in the building. There will be separate Orientation Meetings as followed: 

 

Tuesday, August 10th 5:30 p.m. Grades K – 5

Wednesday, August 11th 5:30 p.m. Grades 6 – 8

Thursday, August 12th 5:30 p.m. Grades 9 – 12

 

Parents and students will need to first check in at the school auditorium (back of the school).  Various stations will be set up with important school information. From there, you will have the opportunity to visit your child’s class and meet with their teacher. Please be sure to sign in when visiting your child’s classroom. If you have multiple students, in different grades, you are welcome to bring all students on any of the scheduled orientation dates. **If you have applied for Prekindergarten, we will be contacting you separately concerning enrollment.  

 

First Day of School, Thursday, August 19th.

Teachers will begin receiving students at 7:35 a.m. for the first week of school ONLY.  After the first week, school hours are Monday – Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.  No students will be allowed in the building until 7:45 a.m.  You may view the school calendar on our website at www.alphaacademy.education.  You will be notified immediately of any changes in the school schedule (ie. early release, inclement weather, emergency events).

 

Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. Students are considered tardy after 8:00 a.m. and will need to be signed in at the front office by a parent or guardian (18 years or older). There will be no student checkouts after 2:00 pm. Please be prepared to show a valid, Government Issue id. Changes to transportation must be made prior to 1:00 p.m. Do not leave transportation changes on the school voicemail. Information may not be received in a timely manner. Students who are not picked up on time or are returning back to school on the buses, there will be a $30/hour fee. 

 

In an effort to continue to meet the requirements of the CDC and the NC Department of Instruction  guidelines and to safeguard our students and staff, all students, staff, and visitors are required to wear masks at all times in the building. Water fountains are not available for drinking. Students are allowed to bring their own bottled water.

 

Lunch Program

Students are to bring their lunch every day.  There are no microwaves for students to heat food or refrigerators to hold student lunches. You will be contacted if your child does not bring his/her lunch. If you must bring your child lunch, please bring their lunch during the student’s lunch time.

We do encourage each student to bring a nutritious lunch to school. We highly discourage candy, soda, or any food products high in sugar content. 

 

School Uniform

Alpha Academy shirts are a required part of the Alpha Academy uniform. You must purchase the shirts from Alpha Academy.  Uniform Shirts are short sleeves $18.00 and long sleeves $20.00 each (cash, debit/credit, or money order/cashier’s check), and may be currently purchased at the school office by Wednesday, August 18thNo shirts will be sold/distributed during Open House or during the first two days of school (Thursday, August 19 – Friday, August 20). You will be contacted by the office if your child is out of uniform, and you will be expected to purchase a uniform shirt, bring them the proper uniform to change, or be prepared to take them home. 

 

 **Any duplication of the Alpha Academy logo without the permission of the Superintendent/Principal is copyright infringement and against the law.**

             

Kindergarten Assessment

All students attending the Kindergarten program must complete a North Carolina Health Assessment.  The health assessment must be submitted to the school within 30 days of your child entering 

Kindergarten. If you do not submit an assessment for your child within the first 30 days of school, your child will not be able to attend school until this assessment is completed.  The NC Health Assessment form can found at https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/Portals/0/documents/pdf/N/NCPre-K_HAForm.pdf.  This form must be completed by your child’s health physician.

 

7th grade Tdap immunization

By North Carolina State law, any student entering 7th grade must have a T-dap immunization/booster.  Please refer to https://immunize.nc.gov/schools/k-12/7th_grade_faq_eng_color.pdf concerning the T-dap shot.  If your child does not receive this immunization within 30 days of the first day of school, he/she will not be allowed to return to school until the vaccination is complete. If you have questions, please contact your family physician or your local Health Department.

 

New to NC Schools/Out-of-State Students

Any students new to NC Schools, to include Kindergarten or Out-of-state students, are required to complete the NC Health Assessment within 30 days of school. This is a requirement by the State of NC and the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Medications and Medical Authorization form

Alpha Academy will only administer medications that have been prescribed by your child’s authorized physician.  Alpha Academy staff does not administer over-the-counter medications and do not send over the counter medications to school with your child. This a serious safety issue.  All medications are left in the front office.  Please do not send any medications with your child to school.  Medical Authorization forms must be completed by your child’s physician for all medications administered to your child at school. Medical Authorization forms can found on the school website or you can retrieve a copy at the main office during office hours.

 

Transportation

Limited transportation is provided at designated bus stops.  Students who were bus riders in 2020-2021 school year have first priority.  All other applications will be considered, if spacing is available.  Transportation information and registration can be located on the school website. Please contact the office for specific transportation questions. 

 

Dress Code

Students are expected to wear the school uniform at all times; Alpha Navy or white polo shirt, blue or khaki pants or short.  NO CARGO PANTS! NO JOGGERS!!  Students who do not wear the appropriate uniform, parents will be notified.  Parents will be asked to purchase a shirt, to provide the student with a change of clothes, or student will be sent home.  Students must wear their school uniform on all school field trips, unless instructed otherwise. Parents will be notified in writing, in advance, if any changes occur.  

 

The school uniform consists of:

Navy blue or khaki uniform skirt, long pants, or shorts, Alpha Academy Logo Polo white or navy blue shirts; Basic solid white or black shoes or sneakers.  Girls may wear navy blue or khaki uniform jumpers, but must still wear the Alpha Academy Polo white or navy blue shirts underneath.

 

If there are questions about clothing/shoe design, please consult Administration before they are worn. Students must remain neatly dressed throughout the day.  The Alpha Academy dress code is as follows:

 

    1. No shirts hanging out of pants (shirts must be tucked)  
    2. No shirts without sleeves
    3. Student are allowed to wear solid color sweat shirts (blue, black, or white, but must wear the Alpha logo polo shirt underneath  
    4. Heavy, thick jackets will be not worn in the classroom.  Students may bring a light jacket from home to wear in the class.  Jackets should be able to zip up/down, and should be solid blue or black
    5. No hoodies can be worn in the classroom
    6. No clothing with designs or emblems (except the Alpha Academy logo**)
    7. No shoes with the back out, no sandals, no high heels, no open toe shoes or sneakers, no flip flops
    8. No colored shoe strings; the color must be the same as the shoes (solid black or white ONLY)                                      
  • No sagging pants; Uniform pants/shorts with belt loops must have a belt, or the extender inside the pant. If the student does not have a belt or the extender inside the pant, the student will be taped by the office.
    1. No cargo pants (pants with large outside pockets on the leg or thigh); uniform pants only
    2. No joggers (a hybrid of sweat pants and regular pants, tight fitting at the ankles); uniform pants only
    3. No colored jeans or five pocket jeans;  uniform pants only
    4. No rolled up pant legs/shorts, No cuffed pants  
    5. No shorts/skirts above mid-thigh  ( 2” above knee) 
    6. No tight fitting clothing (to include leggings, skinny leg, and jeggings)
    7. No ear-rings (on boys)
    8. No combs in hair, No metal combs/picks (these items are considered weapons)
    9. No baseball caps or hats
    10. No unclean braided or twisted hair                      
    11. No colored head bands or head scarves/wraps (all hair accessories must be solid black, white or navy); no colored flowers
  • All tattoos and piercings (other than ear piercings on girls) should be covered at all times  
    1. No long, or hanging earrings (studs & quarter size or smaller hoops only; no more than two (2) pair should be worn at one time) (on girls)
  • No visible necklaces/chains; must be worn under uniform shirt                                                                                                                                                              

 

Note:  Please review the dress code with your child.  All students are required to wear the Alpha Academy logo shirt, White or Navy.  The Alpha Academy logo must be visible at all times. Logos should not be faded.  

According to the Alpha Academy handbook, other forms of dress may also be unacceptable, to be determined by Administration.  Students who violate the dress code will be disciplined according to the school discipline plan.
